The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has, in accordance with Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and Order 15 (1) of the Model Standing Orders for District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies, nominated Honourable Ernest Kwarteng for approval by the Assembly to be appointed as Municipal Chief Executive( MCE) for the Tano North Municipal Assembly.

In this regard, the Presiding Member(PM) of the Assembly, Honourable Kenneth Adom Agyei summoned a Special Meeting on Tuesday, 28th September, 2021 at the Municipal Assembly Hall, Duayaw Nkwanta to take part in a ballot to confirm His Excellency the President’s nomiee.

The Regional Minister, Honourable George Yaw Boakye thanked all participants , Nananom, Honourable Assembly Members, Staff and Heads of Departments of the Tano North Municipal Assembly for taking time out of their busy schedule to make it to this program. He added that endorsing the President’s nominee will accelerate the development of the Municipality. He urged all Honourable Assembly Members to approve the Municipal Chief Executive nominee as he is the people’s choice.

The Regional Electoral Commissioner explained that the MCE nominee, must get 2/3 of votes of Members present before he can be confirmed. He further reiterated that if the nominee gets less than the 2/3 of the votes cast, a fresh election shall be conducted within 10 days through the Presiding Member (PM). He said in such election, if the nominee fails to get Fifty Percent (50%) of the votes cast, then they would have to communicate back to the President. Out of the Thirty-Six (36) Hon. Members present and voted, the Municipal Chief Executive nominee got 100%. As a result, Hon. Ernest Kwarteng was duly confirmed the Municipal Chief Executive of Tano North Municipal Assembly by the Regional Electoral Commissioner.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in his congratulatory speech thanked the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and his sector Ministers for the trust and confidence they have bestowed in him for his re-appointment. He extended his appreciation to Nananom and all Honourable Members for the role they played in his re-appointment as the Municipal Chief Executive. He pleaded for their support in his second term of office to help bring development to the Municipality.



The Municipal Chief Executive Honourable Ernest Kwarteng, Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Eric Anarfi and some Heads of Department of the assembly accompanied by the Ahafo Regional Minister, Honourable George Yaw Boakye, Honourable N.L. Anane Agyei, Chairman of Lands Commission and a member of the National Lands Commission and some dignitaries on Tuesday 7th September, 2021 commissioned a dormitory block to the Community Health and Midwifery Training College, Tanoso. The structure was constructed by the Tano North Municipal Assembly with resource from the District Assembly Common fund. They were welcome by the Chief of Tanoso, Nana Sei Ampem Kwabea( Krontihene) and his Elders, the School Authorities and as well as the students.

The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive in his address thanked Nananom and the school authorities for the warm welcome accorded them. According to him the team led by the Regional Minister came to commission and as well hand over to the school the dormitory constructed by the Municipal Assembly to help improve education which is one of the sitting Government prime agenda. He commended Nananom for given out the land for development and as well as the authorities for ensuring the sustainability of the school till now. He pleaded with school authorities to see to a proper maintenance of the dormitory to be able to serve it purpose.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. George Yaw Boakye in his speech thanked Management of Tano North Municipal Assembly for the good work done by ensuring that the development of the municipality comes first in their activities and as well placing first as far as Ahafo Region is concern. He indicated to the people present the prime agenda of the sitting Government which include the agenda III to help recruit more health workers. Hon. George Yaw Boakye entreated students who are brilliant but needy to submit to him their documents to be enrolled into the schools in the Ahafo Region most especially those in the remote areas.  

Nana Ampem on behalf of Nananom and the people of Tanoso expressed their gratitude to the team led by the Regional Minister, Hon. George Yaw Boakye and the sitting Government for the good work done. According to him, Nananom were happy to offer to the government the parcel of land for development of which both the Government and the Municipal Assembly did not fail the community. He continued to wish for more projects to the community and as also thanked the team and wished for a safe journey to their destination.

Mrs. Elizabeth Wiafe, the Principal of the college, on behalf of the school Authority and the entire student thanked the Regional Minister, Hon. George Yaw Boakye and his team, most especially the Hon. Ernest Kwarteng, Municipal Chief Executive and the team from Tano North Municipal Assembly for their kind gesture and their time. She continued to commend the Municipal Chief Executive for availing himself when it comes to assistance to the school. She also thanked Nananom for realizing the land for such development and wished that the Assembly would continue to support the school with a lot of such projects.

Anane Agyei, Chairman of Ahafo Lands Commission and a Member of National Lands Commission, Honorable Ernest Kwarteng, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Steven Petrofes, the project manager and his team from Newmont Gold Ghana Limited, Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. Boateng, Representative of Omanhene in a person of Nana Boakye Bonus, Departmental Heads of Tano North Municipal Assembly, Honorable Assembly members and management of the St. John Hospital at Duayaw Nkwanta, led by the Hospital Administrator Rev. Sr. Anastasia Okyere on Tuesday, 7th September, 2021 at exactly 11:00am held a ceremony to commission and hand over to the Management of St. John of God Hospital an isolation ward which was constructed by the Tano North Municipal Assembly with funding from the Newmont Gold Ghana Limited

The Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Ernest Kwarteng in his welcome address indicated that the event was organized for an Isolation Ward constructed by the Municipal Assembly and funded by Newmont Gold Ghana Limited to be handed over by the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. George Yaw Boakye to the St. John of God Hospital to cater for COVID-19 cases. He thanked the company for the assistance towards the fighting of COVID-19 in the municipality. The MCE therefore pleaded with the stakeholders to help address issues to pave way for the company to start with their operations in other to furnish the municipality with more projects and supports.  He also entreated the Administration of the hospital to ensure proper maintenance of the ward towards its achievement.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. George Yaw Boakye in his brief statement recommended the Assembly and Newmont Gold Ghana Limited for the unflinching support and effort to aid the people of the Municipality from COVID-19 cases. According to him, the government lead by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa -Addo was doing  all he could to stabilized the economy even though the pandemic had created a lot of inconvenience.

He therefore pleaded with Nananom to do all they could to address the challenges faced the company to enable them starts with their operations in the municipality.

Mr. Steven Petrofes, Newmont Goldcorp Regional Project Director, Africa expressed his gratitude to hand over to the municipality precisely St. John of God Hospital a treatment facility here in Duayaw Nkwanta. He continued to indicate to people gathered, the various support granted by the company from the Newmont Global Fund to the municipality to fight the viral disease (COVID-19) since last year. Mr. Steven indicated how proud the company was in their partnership with Tano North Municipal Assembly in term of technical support in putting up the facility. He also recommended SAMES Company Limited for executing the project as scheduled and entreated the public especially the frontline workers to strictly adhere to the laid down COVID protocols as they take care of the health and wellbeing of clients.

Mr. Steven Petrofes urge all stakeholders to continue to create enabling environment for the company to thrive as business, to create more value and as well resort to dialogue in resolving issues through responsible and sustainable mining.

Rev. Sr. Anastasia Okyere, Administrator of the St. John of God Hospital on behalf of the hospital thanked the Hon. Regional Minister and his Team, Team from Newmont Gold Ghana Limited and Tano North Municipal Assembly for the support provided the facility. She continued to plead with the company and the Assembly to assist the hospital with the furnishing of the Isolation ward to make it function.
